Bugs: Caterpillars and Butterflies

Youtube video

Hello Parents!

This week, our toddlers will explore the wonderful world of caterpillars and butterflies as we learn all about bugs and metamorphosis.

Throughout the week, the children will discover the life cycle of a caterpillar by sequencing picture cards and talking about how caterpillars grow into butterflies. They will create beautiful butterfly wings using coffee filters and colored water, paint symmetrical butterfly art, and practice fine motor skills with caterpillar and butterfly puzzles.

During language activities, we will read Backyard Bugs, act out Little Caterpillar, and learn American Sign Language signs for insects, caterpillars, and butterflies. The children will also enjoy memory games, matching activities, and sensory play as they search for hidden caterpillars.

For social-emotional learning, the children will pretend to be caterpillars in cocoons and butterflies emerging with new wings. They will wrap dolls in cozy cocoons and participate in imaginative group activities.

Our physical activities will keep everyone moving as we roll Play-Doh caterpillars, dance like butterflies with colorful streamers, and flap paper-plate wings during outdoor play. We will also watch for butterflies outside and practice their ASL sign.

We look forward to a week full of discovery, creativity, movement, and fun as we learn about these amazing insects together. Thank you for being part of our learning journey! 🦋🐛

Have a wonderful week!
