Kids’ Fruit Salad

This month, we’ve been talking about math and its attributes and how we can sort things depending on those attributes. Not everything that’s math is about numbers, but different skills are just as important as numbers.

I have a great game for you that you can play with your little one:
Does your child love to help you cook? Work together to make a fruit salad. Talk with your child as you cut the fruits into bite-sized
Pieces with plastic knives.

Please encourage your child to identify the fruits’ color and tell whether they are soft or hard. Initially, you can keep the fruit in separate balls to highlight similarities, color, shape, consistency, and taste.

Note: If you have chosen a hard fruit such as an apple, assist your child in safely cutting it. You don’t want to end up in the ER. That would defeat the purpose of this activity.

Put the pieces of fruit into a serving bowl and add several spoons of yogurt. Stir and sprinkle with sunflower seeds. Serve the salad for a family snack and celebrate the way your child helped to prepare it.
